Diverse scenery will take your breath away as well as the different light conditions and untouched nature sceneries. We will explore the South coast of Iceland by car and along walking trails. Although the main focus will be Landscape Photography those of you who like macro or close-up photography will have plenty of opportunities to indulge during the walks. You will get personal field instruction and photo feedback. There will be no competition or lots of technical talks but a great learning experience, and of course a lot of fun with great out-door activities. We will travel in a small group and sleep in guesthouses whose warm and welcoming owners will make you feel at home. In the evening we will share enjoyable nice local food.

You will learn how to photograph floating water (waterfalls), different tones of ice, strong composition in landscape photography, details and macro. We will include into tour one day hiking, some adventurous trips and hot bath.

The main language of workshop is English. Kristel is native Dutch and me Czech if you are not sure with your English.

Schedule of photo workshop women

Day 1 (4 July): Arrival Keflavik airport Iceland

You will be picked up by our representatives and transferred to a guesthouse in Reykjavik. Try to get to Iceland at last 4 pm. Orientation meeting in the evening (5 pm). After dinner (7 pm) we will take a 2 hours walk in the city of Reykjavik.

Day 2 (5 July): Krisuvik – Waterfalls of the south – Glaciers – Basalt columns – Reynisdrangar – Vík

In the morning we will drive to Krisuvik hot spring area and on the way, we will stop in Strandarkirkja church where we will photograph interior and architectonical details. This day we will drive along to south coast and we will photograph mainly waterfalls and seashore. You will learn how to capture movement and long exposure to reach smooth water. There is optional to visit open air museum in Skógar with old rural and turf houses which are popular theme in Icelandic photography. We plan to stay nearby village Vík for two nights to have good opportunity to capture sunsets, sunrises and high tide.

Day 3 (6 July): Vík í Mýrdal – basalt columns – Reynisdrangar – Glacier Mýrdalsjökull

We will start our day early by photographing seashore around village Vík where is situated black lava beach with basalt columns and basalt sea stacks. We plan to photograph high tide as well. We plan to visit local puffin colony and capture them in their daily activities.

Day 4 (7 July): Vík – Waterfall Svartifoss – NP Skaftafell – Jökulsarlón

The main goal of this day is to walk in National park Skaftafell and you will learn to photograph landscape by using basic design elements as lines, shapes, forms, textures and color under proper light and in different perspectives. We will spend afternoon at glacier lagoons, world famous Jökulsarlón. Our eyes will be mainly focused on icebergs and different tones of ice.

Day 5 (8 July): Lónsoræfi

We will take a day trip to the mountains. The way will be very adventurous and breathtaking. We will hike and practice Landscape Photography and we will put into practice what we had learned day before, learn to see the details in landscape and capture strongly composed images.

Day 6 (9 July): South coast

Today we will drive back through Vatnajökull glacier and Vík. You will have the opportunity to re-shoot scenes in different light conditions and perspectives. As you always see new things the second time you visit a place, there will be plenty of time to take other images. We will also be able to take a hot bath in the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, which is situated underneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

Day 7 (10 July): Kerlingarfjöll

Kerlingarjöll (women´s mountain) is a place where you can see the interaction of ice and fire. As you approach the mountains you enter desolate, fantasy land scenery with spectacular flow of colours. Hveradalir valleys the hot spring area is covered with multi coloured geyser clay. The dense clouds of steam, the Liparite Mountains and the glaciers, all add to the diversity and beauty of this very special place. We will take a walk in stunning area and afterward we will have a hot bath.

Day 8 (11 July): Golden Circle: Geysir – Þingvellir – lake Thingvallavatn

On the way to Reykjavík we drive the Golden Circle. We will start our day by photographing the Strokkur Geyser which spouts up to 20 meters. Þingvellir is a remarkable geological site. It is place where the American and European tectonic plates are spreading from each other and we will mostly focus on how to capture lava fissures in proper light. You will learn how to solve problems when parts of the images is underexposed and others overexposed. When we drive along the Thingvallavatn lake, we will stop according to interest to capture the best spots.

Day 9 (12 July): Departure from Iceland

Transfer from hotel to Keflavik airport (B)

We will sleep in local guesthouses or country hotels whose warm and welcoming owners will make you feel at home. Based on combined accommodation: 2 persons in a twin rooms (405 USD extra cost for single accommodation).

Kristel Schneider

(Dutch) is a photographer and workshop instructor, specialized in Nature and Landscapes Photography. She has gained her experience by shooting in many countries around the world. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and Newfoundland, Canada. She has attended many Photography Master Classes from professional Photographers and followed courses at the Amsterdam Photo Academy. She studied Human Resource Management and Communication in Amsterdam and worked the last 6 years of her career as an International Communication Advisor for a Pharmaceutical Company. In 2007 she decided to move to France and focus on her passion, Nature and Landscape Photography. Over the years she has carried out private commissions and her work has been published in several magazines. Kristel is based in the Auvergne, France



Marketa Kalvachova

Markéta is originally from the Czech republic. When she first came to Iceland, she immediately fell in love with its nature and stayed. She has specialized in nature and landscape photography and has a passion for panoramas. Markéta and her husband Tim Vollmer are professional photographers who enjoy organizing tours and workshops for avid photographers.
